Action Comores is a voluntary conservation organisation working in the Comoros Islands (Comores), which are situated in the Western Indian Ocean between Madagascar and mainland Africa. Our primary objective is to help alleviate the environmental problems of the Comores through scientific research, direct conservation and environmental education. Action Comores has visited the Comores every year since 1992. The flagship species of our project is Livingstone's flying fox (Pteropus livingstonii). Livingstone's flying fox is one of the rarest fruit bats in the world and is endemic to the Comores. Current population estimates suggest there are only around 400 individuals of this species left in the wild.

  • Afghanistan Foundation (Rating: 10, Votes: 1) [ RATE IT ]

The Afghanistan Foundation is a 501c(3) non-profit, non-partisan, independent organization located in Washington, D.C., a few blocks from the U.S. Capitol building. It was founded in May 1996 and was incorporated in the District of Columbia in October 1996 by former U.S Congressman Don Ritter (R-PA, 1979-1993) along with committed Afghan and American leaders. Congressman Ritter currently serves as Chairman and President of the Afghanistan Foundation. As one of the leading Congressional proponents of U.S. assistance to the people of Afghanistan, and founder of the Congressional Task Force on Afghanistan during the Soviet occupation, Congressman Ritter played and continues to play a major role in moving U.S. policy toward a higher level of positive and practical involvement in the Afghanistan issue. Alongside Congressman Ritter, the Foundation has convened the distinguished leadership and informative guidance of prominent scholars and specialists on Afghanistan and the region, as well as a bipartisan group of key Members of Congress and former diplomatic officials from Afghanistan and the United States. These form the Foundation's Board of Directors, Congressional Advisory Board, Diplomatic Advisory Board, and International Advisory Board.

  • Afghanistan Peace Association (Rating: 0, Votes: 0) [ RATE IT ]

We in the APA believe that neither Afghanistan nor its peace-loving and Muslim citizens deserve such misery and misfortune that is forced upon them, sometimes from the outside and sometimes from political and military forces within. Considering the disturbed Afghan history of foreign interventions, masicures, bloodshed, civil wars and devestations, perhaps the best lesson to be learned from history is the maintenance of Afghanistan’s national unity and permanent peace among its people by restoring political and social to all citizens in the absence of all prejudices. Any opposing view is a path sure to bring an end to Afghans and Afghanistan. In order to fulfill this inherited duty, a number of Afghans, on November 11, 1989 (21 Aqrab, 1368), gathered together and a decision was made to form an independent and neutral assembly. After a few meetings and exchange of ideas, this assembly adopted the name Afghanistan Peace Association (APA). Soon after, it devised a constitution and by-laws and ratified them; and the formation of the first General Peace Council was passed. The first General Council of Peace (APA) took place on November 11, 1995, which coincided with the 6th anniversary of the APA.
